More Sunsets

Life in Florida Bay is all about the sunsets, it seems.  Otherwise, there really isn't much to talk about this time of year!  Except the start of Lobster season!

They have a two-day 'mini' season, which was last Wed & Thur, then regular season starts Thurs 8/6.  Most of the 'locals' avoid the water during mini-season because it seems to bring out every nut with a boat and a net, and the authorities are working overtime.   But we managed to snag a few beauties. (I say "we" but Tom did all the work, including the cooking!)  Spiny lobsters look alot different than Maine lobsters.  They're such beautiful creatures, you almost hate to eat them, but if we don't, someone else will, so...

Someone had put out some green tubes about 3 feet long, like sewer pipe, all over where we normally anchor, and the lobsters love to hide in them.  (Which is actually an illegal habitat, but they're out there, so we took advantage of them.)  See the antennae sticking out of it?  And another one is trying to hide in the corner.

Took a sunset sail.   I hate sitting in one place too long.  Besides, the wind is still free!

And we finally put the spinnaker up for the first time!  We got some really good speed out of her down wind!

And here's some news.  We both got jobs! (OMG)  Tom's working full time doing powder-coating on fishing lures, and I'm doing piece-work tying Bucktail Jigs for Hank Brown's Hookup Lures!  (NO KIDDING!)

Here's my first one.

And, of course, the sunsets just keep on coming on...

(I guess it would be bad if they didn't...duh.)

Just a little butter and 10 minutes on the grill.  Yum yum!

Caught a little catfish a while back, but he didn't keep it.

This little guy was trying to hitch a ride!  He finally swam away.  He was only about 6 inches long, but we have seen some iguanas down here over 3 feet long!

He finally shaved after about a month. He's been reading some Hemingway books...I don't know....

These are made out of REAL buck (deer) tails, some of which have been dyed.  Tom paints and bakes the lead heads, then I tie the tails on and stick the eyes on.  They come in lots of colors!  Check out their website.  They're really getting to be big.  You can buy them all over the place, like at Bass Pro Shops, etc. and online.
